"The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor" Part 2 - The Fashion!

I hope you enjoyed yesterday's peek at a few of the amazing jewels from "The Elizabeth Taylor Collection" at Christie's. Today, I thought I'd share a glimpse of the fabulous fashions too. As with the jewelry, owning an enormous collection of haute couture also goes with the territory of being a legendary film icon! So, without further ado, here's a look at some of Taylor's coveted clothing up for auction.

On the left is the Chanel Ballgown, Cape, Shoes and Handbag Taylor wore to the Royal Command Performance of The Taming of the Shrew at the Odean Theatre in London in 1967. It is estimated to sell at auction for $6,000-$8,000. In the center is the dramatic Tiziani Black Velvet "Scorpio" Evening Cape ($2,000-$3,000) that Taylor wore to Princess Grace of Monaco's fortieth birthday "Scorpio" ball in 1969. Can you imagine how stunning she looked? On the right is the gorgeous Christian Dior Evening Gown of Silver Encrusted Brocade with Matching Evening Bag. For $4,000-$6,000, it would be nice to own the very ensemble Taylor wore to Guy de Rothchild and his wife's yearly ball at their country home, Chateau de Ferrières in Brie, France. Don't you think?

The next vignette features a collection of Christian Dior stunners! On the left, the Sugar Pink Paper Taffeta Evening Sheath and Pale Green Full-Length Evening Coat are estimated at $5,000-$8,000. On the platform in the center is the Dior Evening Gown with Raffia Embroidering and Matching Clutch. The two evening gowns in this lot and were made for Taylor as Leonora in the 1968 Universal Pictures production Secret Ceremony. They are expected to fetch $2,000-$3,000. On the right is an evening ensemble ($6,000-$8,000), featuring a dress, coat and shawl that Taylor wore to the New York City premier of Doctor Faustus in 1968. I have to say, it is really amazing to see how well-preserved all the clothing is; everything is in perfect condition and the colors are still very vibrant. Even though yellow was her favorite color, I was happy to see she also had quite a penchant for pink as well!

Above is some of Taylor's Chanel collection up for auction...sigh! There are handbags, necklaces, earrings, belts, boots, suits and the fabulous list goes on.

Taylor also had a beautiful collection of caftans paired with equally impressive jewelry to match. They made a very dramatic presentation at the exhibition!
